Cole Stefan Gets Recruiting Interest

Cole Stefan, a 6-foot-3 junior guard from Minnetonka, is one of the top outside shooters in the Class of 2010. He helped lead Net Gain Sports to the Twin Cities Summer Classic title and the Gold Division championship in the adidas Supper 64 in Las Vegas. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Stefan to learn the latest on his recruitment and his recent trips to two schools on unofficial visits.

Cole Stefan has already attracted scholarship offers from schools such as Illinois State, Northern Iowa, Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Drake, Montana, Oral Roberts, Montana State and South Dakota State and interest from several other top programs such as Minnesota, Northwestern, Washington State and Marquette.

Stefan recently visited Illinois State and Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He told GoldenSports.Net that he enjoyed his trip.

"They were excellent. I like both schools a lot, both great options," he said.

Stefan said that he plans to make another trip later this year, despite a hectic playing schedule.

"I think that I am going to go out on New Year's Eve to Nevada to watch them play North Carolina. That is the only one that I think that I am going to do this upcoming winter," he said.

Stefan has been working hard to get ready for his junior season after being hurt most of last year on a senior-dominated team that won the Class AAAA title.

"Just lifting weights a lot," Stefan said. "Spending a couple of hours in the gym and getting up a lot of shots every day. Just working hard."

Minnetonka is awaiting word on the eligibility on whether Tor Anderson, a close friend of Stefan's and an AAU teammate who transferred from Prior Lake, can play on the varsity level.

"If he can play, it's all the better," Stefan said. "It is going to make our team a lot better. Hopefully, he can play and we're going to have a great year."

Nevada is planning on catching Minnetonka play Waconia in the season opener. The Wolfpack have shown recent interest in Stefan. They had been recruiting AAU teammate Sam Dower this summer and came across Stefan.

"Nevada kind of sprung out of nowhere. They saw me in Vegas," he said.
