Huge Week For Gopher Sports Fans

Minnesota Gopher sport fans will have their pick of events this week as this is one of the top recent sports weeks for U fans. The unbeaten men's basketball team faces #10 Michigan State at 11, the football team hopes to get back on track in the Insight Bowl versus Kansas, the wrestling team faces #13 Oklahoma State on New Year's Day and Gopher fans can watch future hoops and gridiron recruits.

The Minnesota basketball team is one of just seven undefeated teams left in the country and they get their biggest home test of the year against Michigan State (9-2). The game was scheduled for five, but was moved to 11 to avoid conflicting with the Insight Bowl.

The football team started the season 7-1, but lost their last four games. They are hoping to build some momentum for next year with a win over Kansas, which knocked off rival Missouri in their season finale.

Gopher fans can look to the future as basketball signees Rodney Williams and Royce White will play in the Timberwolves Shootout Saturday.

Football enthusiasts can watch Florida defensive back Michael Carter and Breck wide receiver Bryce McNeal make their college choices live in the U.S. Army Game. It is unlikely that both will become future Gophers, but fans can hope that one becomes part of the recruiting Class of 2009. Future quarterback Moses Alipate of Bloomington Jefferson will play in the ESPN Under Armour Game Sunday.

The Gopher basketball team will face Big Ten rival Ohio State at William Arena Saturday.
