Madison Memorial Defeats Henry Sibley 67-64

Madison Memorial defeated Henry Sibley 67-64 in a matchup of undefeated teams in the Timberwolves Shootout. Both team lost in their state championship games last season.

Henry Sibley led 60-57, but Vander Blue hit a three-pointer from the left corner to knot the score. Jeronne Maymon made the second of two free throws with 1:53 left to put the Spartans up 61-60. Blue made two free throws to put the Spartans up by 63-60 with 1:33 left. Mike Bruesewitz's three-pointer hit the side of the backboard and Junior Lomomba countered to put Memorial up by five. Bruesewitz scored to cut the lead to 65-62 with 20.3 seconds left.

Xavier Jones missed both free throws with 18.4 seconds left, but Maurice Hernandez's three-pointer rimmed out. Lomomba hit both free throws with 7.3 seconds left to put the Spartans up 67-62. Chris Halvorsen dunk in the closing seconds were the game's final points.

Madison Memorial was led by Jeronne Maymon, a 6-foot-7, 230-pound forward who signed with Marquette, who finished with a game-high 26 points. He made eleven of 16 shots from the field and made all four free throws. Maymon, who was named the state's Associated Press Player of the Year last year, added 13 rebounds and four steals. Junior guard Vander Blue, who has already committed to Wisconsin, scored 16 points on six of ten shooting from the field and was two of four from beyond the arc.

The Spartans improved to 6-0 with the win.

Henry Sibley was led by Wisconsin signee Mike Bruesewitz, who scored 20 points on nine of 17 shooting. He added ten rebounds. Valparaiso signee Chris Halvorsen had 16 points, Maurice Hernandez added eleven and 6-foot-7 junior Mike Rostampour, who has offers from North Dakota State and Wisconsin Milwaukee, had ten points.

The Warriors lost for the first time, falling to 7-1.
