WR Jimmy Thompson Transfers to South Dakota

Jimmy Thompson, a redshirt freshman wide receiver from Hayward (WI) High who recently left the Minnesota Gopher football team, has transferred to South Dakota. Thompson redshirted his freshman year and did not have a catch this season as he played in just four games on special teams. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Thompson's stepfather, Ken Vesselm, who confirmed the transfer.

Jimmy Thompson was named to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel All-State Team and he was an all-conference selection his junior season. He finished with 1,500 yards rushing, 750 yards receiving and 18 total touchdowns his senior season. Thompson had 4,552 total yards and 42 total touchdowns for his career and had 21 career touchdowns of 60 yards or more.

Thompson will see several familiar faces at South Dakota. He will play alongside former Minnesota roommate Shane Potter, who finished with 45 total tackles this season for the Coyotes.

Thompson was recruited to South Dakota by offensive coordinator Gordon Shaw, who had recruited him out of high school at Minnesota.
