Sahr Ngekia Gets Minnesota Attention

Sahr Ngekia, a 6-foot-4, 220-pound wide receiver from Richfield (MN) Academy of Holy Angels, has received a preferred walk-on offer from Minnesota. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Holy Angels head coach Mike Smalley to learn the latest on Ngekia's recruitment.

Sahr Ngekia had 16 reception for 307 yards and one touchdown for the Stars, who finished 2-7 in the competitive Missota Conference. Holy Angels head coach Mike Smalley feels that Ngekia has plenty of room for growth as a football player after having played the sport for just three years.

"His strength is his size. He is 6-foot-4, 220 pounds and can jump right out of the gym. He's got a tremendous upside," Smalley said.

Smalley feels that Ngekia is a diamond in the rough, but still needs to continue to improve his skills.

"His ball skills are the biggest thing that he needs to work on, being aggressive to the ball," he said. "Being consistent catching with his hands. Being more aggressive going after it."

Ngekia is from Liberia, but left the country when he was young, due to the internal strife in the country.

"They fled Liberia when I think he was in the fourth grade," Smalley said.

Smalley said that Ngekia has a preferred walk-on opportunity from Minnesota and Wisconsin, and is hearing from Air Force. He said that Ngekia is an excellent student with a 3.5 GPA and hopes to major in engineering.
