Tony Theisen Transfers to Minnesota

Tony Theisen, a first-team Associated Press All-State selection as a returner for the 2007 season, has transferred from North Iowa Area Community College to Minnesota, according to the Rochester Bulletin. Theisen, who is 6-foot-1 and 190 pounds, is currently enrolled and will walk on with the Gophers.

Tony Theisen was an all-purpose back who was named the 2007 Three Rivers Conference North Co-Offensive Player of the Year. Theisen scored a total of 17 touchdowns as he had 97 carries for 802 yards (8.3-yard average) and 22 receptions for 442 yards for a 20.1-yard average per catch. He had 143 yards on punt returns for an average of 17.9 yards and 237 yards on kick returns for an average of 39.5. Theisen scored touchdowns by rushing, receiving, punt return and kick return.

His top game was against rival Lewiston-Altura in a tough 28-27 loss. Theisen had four touchdowns as he returned the opening kickoff 85 yards for a score, rushed for 101 yards on 22 carries and caught five passes for 79 yards.

Theisen also played on the Bulldogs basketball team as they finished 25-4 last season, losing to La Crescent 54-52 in the Class AA Section 1 semifinals.
