Lamonte Edwards Commits to Minnesota

As expected, Lamonte Edwards, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound junior linebacker/running back from Woodbury, has committed to Minnesota. Edwards paced the Royals to a 9-2 mark this past season, losing to Cretin Derham Hall twice. Edwards, who was getting early looks from several Midwest schools, is the fourth player to commit to the Gophers and second in-state verbal.

Lamonte Edwards helped lead the Royals to a 9-2 record, losing to Cretin Derham Hall 33-14 in the Class AAAAA Section 4 finals. They lost to the Raiders 22-16 in the regular season. Woodbury shined in the month of October. They defeated Hastings 48-14, White Bear Lake 48-20, Stillwater 48-7, Park of Cottage Grove 47-12 in the first round of the playoffs and Henry Sibley 54-20 in the semifinals.

Woodbury head coach Beau LaBore recently told GoldenSports.Net that Edwards is a special player for the Royals.

"He is a pretty unbelievable talent," LaBore said. "He is very strong. He is explosive and fast. He is a hard worker. I think that he has a bright future."
