Dontae Johnson Looking at Minnesota

New Jersey two-sport athlete Dontae Johnson is considering the Gophers among at least a dozen schools that have shown interest. Johnson talked with about his focus right now and his thoughts on Minnesota.

Dontae Johnson's AAU basketball season begins soon and he is looking forward to a summer of hoops. But come fall, the 6-foot-3, 185-pound safety from Pennington, New Jersey, will be all about football, the only sport that he will focus on in college.

Johnson is being recruited by at least a dozen schools and has offers from half a dozen.

"I have offers from Minnesota, Michigan State, Connecticut, Maryland, North Carolina State and Virginia," Johnson said.

He doesn't have any favorites yet, but plans to visit many campuses of the schools that are recruiting him this summer. He will also attend the Nike Camp at Penn State in May.

Minnesota is recruiting the speedy two-way athlete to play safety, which, according to Johnson, is his strongest position.

Johnson is impressed with Minnesota's up-and-coming status within the Big Ten.

"A lot of people are starting to hear about Minnesota, so that's a good thing," Johnson said, "It's definitely on the rise from all the other programs in the Big Ten."

Johnson is an excellent student with a 3.8 core GPA, and, while he is unsure what he will study in college, he looks to find a university with a high graduation rate "and a school that's involved with my major, when I decide on that," he said.
