Winona C Alec Brown Gets Recruiting Looks

Alec Brown, a 6-foot-11, 190-pound junior center from Winona, helped lead the Winhawks to an appearance in the Class AAAA State Tournament as they faced St. Cloud with Minnesota Gopher coaches in attendance. Brown averaged 14.2 points and seven rebounds per game for the Winhawks, who finished 17-11 this season. GoldenSports.Net caught with Brown recently to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Alec Brown missed the first 12 games, due to eligibility issues. However, he led Winona to a 13-3 mark in his 16 games. Brown will play for the Pump N Run AAU program. Brown is hearing from schools such as Washington State, Colorado State and Northern Iowa, but that list figures to grow after a strong spring and summer AAU season. Minnesota is among the schools that has recently began evaluating Brown.

GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Brown to learn about his recruitment and offseason plans.

What things are you planning on working on to improve as a player?

"Definitely, the weight room. I've got to build some muscle and add some pounds. I don't know. Everything, basically."

Do you come from a basketball family?

"My dad played at Winona State and my brother played a couple of years ago when they went to state."

You have grown a lot the past few years, right?

"Last year, I was 6-6, 6-7 and two years ago, I was 6-3, 6-4. I'm still catching up."

You lose some good seniors, but return yourself and some other players. What are your expectations for next season.

"I think that we should be pretty good. We have a lot of good sophomores coming up and we got a good freshman. He should be pretty good. We got some good players that will be seniors. I think that we should be pretty good."
