Zachary Vraa Gets Recruiting Attention

Zachary Vraa, a 6-foot-3 three-sport junior athlete from Rosemount, is getting recruiting looks in both basketball and football. Vraa was named first-team All-Metro by KARE 11 Sports and second-team All-Metro by the Minneapolis Star Tribune and honorable mention Associated Press All-State. He recently visited with the Gopher coaches and GoldenSports.Net caught up with Vraa to learn the latest.

Zachary Vraa helped lead Rosemount to an 11-2 mark in football, sharing the Lake Conference title with Eden Prairie. They lost to eventual state champion Wayzata 34-10 in the Class AAAAA semifinals.

Vraa finished with 51 receptions for 945 yards (18.5 yards per reception) and 13 touchdowns. He caught 62% of the team's receptions on the season.

Have you thought much about what camps you might attend this summer?

"Right now, I am signed up to go to the Gopher camp and I am still debating about the North Dakota State, Wyoming and some possible other ones like Wisconsin."

Are you starting to hear from schools for basketball as well?

"I have been talking to Louisiana Tech, Eastern Illinois and Bucknell a little bit."

Are you going to do any individual basketball camps this summer?

"I have got some letters on a few. I have not made any decisions yet, but I got some letters about camps that I might be attending this summer."

Have you thought about what sports you are going to try to play in college?

"I'm leaning slightly towards football. Things could change as the summer goes along. Right now, I am undecided. during the basketball season, I really like basketball and during football, I really like football. Since it is the offseason, I'm playing football a little and basketball. It is tough to decide."

You lose your quarterback, Chase Vogler. Do you have a good feeling for how things might look this season?

"I have not really practiced with anyone yet. I've played catch with Chase. Once this summer comes around and we start our football workouts, I am sure that coach will have some quarterbacks that will be passing some routes to the wide receivers. We are still undecided at quarterback, but whoever we choose, we will have confidence in."

How is track going so far? I know that you missed Friday's basketball game for a meet?

"On Friday, we had the Rosemount Invitational. We won that. We've been to the Lakeville Mega Meet and a few others down at the U of M. We've been pretty good. We lost a lot of good guys from last year. We are holding on strong with our sprinters and hopefully we will have another good year like last year."

How are you doing individually?

"The last meet, I won the 110 high hurdles and the 300 intermediate hurdles. We ran the the 4 x 400 and got first place in that. I am doing pretty well in all the races."

What are your goals in the section and state?

"Last year, our 4 X 400 team got to state and finished second overall. This year, my goal is to win state and make to the state in the 100 and 300 and see how it goes."
