Jordan Smith Continues to Attract Interest

Jordan Smith, a 6-foot-1 rising junior guard from Orono, is one of the state's top players in the Class of 2011. Smith has started the past two seasons for the Spartans and has shined as a member of the 43 Hoops 16-and-under team. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Smith to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Jordan Smith led the Spartans to a 13-14 mark this past season, losing to Minneapolis DeLaSalle 66-53 in the Class 3A Section 6 Boys Basketball first round playoffs for the second straight year. Smith averaged 22.0 points per game this past season. He scored just three points against Christ Household of Faith in the season opener as he was slowed by an ankle injury. Smith scored in double figures in 24 of the remaining 26 games. He had a season-season 49-points against Annadale, three-game of 30 or more and 14 contests with more than 20 points.

Smith helped lead Orono to a 19-8 mark as a freshman, losing to Minneapolis DeLaSalle 57-48 in the first round of the playoffs. He averaged 16.5 points per game, scoring in double figures in 20 of 26 games last season. Smith scored 20 or more points 11 times, including a season-high 30 points versus Glencoe Silver-Lake.

Smith has shined this spring for the 43 Hoops 16-and-Under team. They played up and won the Minnesota Select Classic 17-and-Under division 59-56 over the Redhawks in May.

43 Hoops 16-and-Under AAU team shined at the recent Adidas May Classic Tournament held in Bloomington, Indiana. They won the 2008 tournament and were 5-0. Unfortunately, a flight conflict prevented them from trying to repeat as champions.

43 Hoops 16U started with a pool play victory over D1E Derrick Rose All-Stars from Chicago as Smith had 13 points.

43 Hoops defeated SYF Players 73-5 in their first playoff game. Smith was once again the top scorer with 14 points. 43 Hoops defeated Queen City in the quarterfinals 76-69 after leading by 15 points at halftime. Smith finished with 15 points.

Smith helped lead the 43 Hoops 15-and-under team to the Twin Cities Summer Classic title and a runner-up spot in the adidas Super 64 Tournament last year

Smith helped lead the 43 Hoops Carr AAU team to the 15-and-under Twin Cities Summer Classic division title with an 80-53 victory over the Madison Spartans as he scored 15 points.

Smith scored 15 points as Playaz Basketball Club White defeated 43 Hoops 63-59 to win adidas 15-and-under title in Las Vegas. They had knocked off the highly ranked Ohio Basketball Club 68-65 in the semifinals to advance to the title game.

Anything new on your recruitment?

Not really much new. Northwestern sent me some stuff recently. Not really anything new."

Are you planning on going to any college camps soon?

This summer, we are going to a lot of camps. I'll be going to Wisconsin, Northwestern, Iowa State and all those.

What types of things are you working on to improve your game?

My ballhandling. I struggled a little bit with that today. Other wise, my shot has been going pretty well. I still want to work on my ballhandling.

Where are you playing this summer?

Las Vegas, Chicago and Cincinnati.
