LB Dwayne Mitchell Commits To Minnesota

Dwayne Mitchell, a 6-foot-2, 215-pound outside linebacker from New Orleans (LA) Edna Karr, has committed to Minnesota, according to NewOrleans.Com. Mitchell picked the Gophers over interest from Louisiana-Lafayette, Louisiana-Monroe and Louisiana Tech.

Dwayne Mitchell had picked up a scholarship offer from Duke in February and Virginia and Southern Mississippi were also looking at him.

Edna Karr head coach Jabbar Juluke thinks that Mitchell who runs a 4.6 forty-yard dash, is a standout on the field.

"Dwayne is very explosive player, very hard working. He loves the game. Minnesota is getting a great football player and a great young man. He is academically qualified and will be a great contributor on and off the field at Minnesota. He was All-State, All-Metro and the district MVP. He squats 405 pounds, benches 315 pounds. He went to Minnesota this summer and he liked it. I do not let any of my guys commit without visiting the place. Derek Lewis of New Orleans recruited him,"

Minnesota assistant Derek Lewis, a former tight end at nearby St. Augustine High School, played at Texas.
