Indiana DB James Manuel Commits to Minnesota

James Manuel, a 6-foot-2, 190-pound three-star safety from Indianapolis (IN) Warren Central, has committed to Minnesota, according to sources close to the program after visiting the campus this weekend. Manuel picked the gophers over interest from Iowa, Louisville and Cincinnati.

James Manuel has helped lead the Class 5A #4 Warriors to a 4-1 start after a 58-39 victory over visiting North Central in a Metropolitan Interscholastic Conference game Friday night. Warren Central led 56-10 before emptying thier bench in the fourth quarter. Their lone loss was to Cathedral, which is the Class 4A #1 team.

Manuel was impressed by his visit to Minnesota and the new TCF Stadium.

"The atmosphere is crazy. The campus. The city. This is what I live for. I really want to go somewhere where the atmosphere is crazy."

Manuel said that he didn't know a lot about Minnesota before his visit, but he had done his research.

"I did a little bit of research. I got on-line and did the education work and facilities work. I checked out the roster to see where I lined up. Who is graduating? Who is coming back?"

Manuel, who has 2.4 GPA on a 4.0 scale, is working to be eligible as a freshman. He recently took the ACT for the second time.

"I took it twice. I took it in the summer and I just took it last week. In the summer, I didn't test out as well, but I know that I did better last week."

Manuel has a major in mind.

"I want to major in education, either in the social studies area or special education area. I also want to coach, whether it would be high school, middle school or even here on the college level."
