Duluth Guard Dyami Starks Commits to Columbia

Dyami Starks, a 6-foot-2 guard from Duluth (MN) East, has committed to Columbia, according to sources close to his recruitment. Starks averaged 22 points and 5.7 rebounds per game last season for the Greyhounds, who finished 12-14 losing to Andover 93-78 in the first round of the Class AAAA Section 8 playoffs.

Dyami Starks, who had received recruiting interest from Minnesota as a sophomore, played for the Minnesota Pump N Run AAU 17-and-under program this spring and summer. Starks started the spring strong as they won several spring tournaments. He credited his strong spring play to workouts with his good friend and AAU teammate.

"Me and Steve Tecker, we try to work out on a consistent basis. He has a weight room in his house and it is easy access for me. What I have been really trying to do is basic liftng, keeeping my body toned."

Starks received scholarship offers from Bucknell and Drake, but those programs received other commitments. Starks and Pump N Run didn't play as well in the summer and some schools cooled on him. Eastern Illinois and Air Force were among the schools that he picked over when he committed to Columbia.

Duluth East figures to have one of their top teams in the past few years with Starks and sophomore standout Johnny Woodard.
