J.D. Pride Becomes Latest Minnesota Commit

J.D. Pride, a 6-foot-1, 190-pound quarterback from Totino-Grace, has committed to Minnesota, according to sources close to his recruitment. Pride comes from a football family that has ties to the Gopher program. His father, John, played for the Gophers, as did uncle Marion Barber II and his cousins Dominique and Marion Barber III. Pride has helped lead the Eagles to a 6-0 start this season.

J.D. Pride has completed 26 of 56 passes through the first five games. He has thrown for 350 yards with four touchdowns and three interceptions.

Pride helped lead the Eagles to a 9-2 mark as a junior, losing to Orono in the Class AAAA, Section 6 Football finals 19-15. He attended camps at Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa State, Michigan, Ohio State, North Carolina and South Carolina.

Minnesota has been a school that Pride grew up watching close as his father played there along with other family members.

"I've grown up watching a lot of schools. Minnesota has always been a school that I liked a lot. Just the tradition that they have got. The coaches that they have right now are great. They just have a really good school all-around, football and academic-wise."

Pride is a good student who is working hard to be eligible as a freshman.

"My GPA right now is around a 2.9. I still have two or three core classes that I need to take. After that, it will be mid three's. I took the ACT and got an 18."
