Hopkins Defeats Columbia Heights 95-72

Columbia Heights might have figured out a way to keep Hopkins from reaching the 100-point mark. The Royals defeated the Hylanders 95-78, but the game was called with under two minutes to go when the scoreboard got unplugged.

Hopkins used their trapping defense to create five straight turnovers, which translated into three dunks by Joe Coleman and one by Marvin singleton as they went from down one to up 21-12. Columbia Heights guard Jacob Thomas, a signee with Long Beach State, hit a 30-footer to cut the lead to 46-30 at halftime. Coleman had 18 points, including five dunks in the first half and Singleton added eleven. Thomas had 20 points for the Hylanders.

Columbia Heights turned up the defensive pressure in the second half and cut the margin to 54-50, but Hopkins responded with 15 straight points to pull away. Coleman had 29 points and Singleton finished with 25. Freshman Riley Dearring had twelve points and D. J. Peterson added eight.

Thomas led all scorers with 32 points and Marckus Shaw added twelve.
