Johnny Woodard Gets Early Recruiting interest

Johnny Woodard, a 6-foot-4, 193-pound sophomore from Duluth (MN) East, has gotten off to an excellent start this season for the Greyhounds along with guard Dyami Starks. His strong early season play has attracted the interest of several top college programs. GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Woodard to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Johnny Woodard has helped lead the Greyhounds to a 3-1 start, playing four Twin City are teams. They lost to Eastview 73-67 and defeated Andover 102-89, White Bear Lake 93-73 and Forest Lake 68-64.

Woodard scored 26 points in the win over White Bear Lake, 21 versus Forest Lake, 18 against Andover and 25 in their lone loss to Eastview.

The Greyhounds finished 12-14 last season, losing to Andover 93-78 in the first round of the Class AAAA Section 8 playoffs. However, this year's team is much more athletic and deeper, something that Woodard is excited about.

Woodard told Golden Sports.Net that he is working hard on his game.

"I working on coming off the dribble and driving. Being more aggressive on defense. Talking more."

Woodard said that he is also working hard to improve himself as a teammate.

"My attitude and being committed to the team."

Woodard said that he doesn't have a favorite school by tries watching as many games to learn things from some of the top college players.

"I watch a lot of college games. All different teams."

Woodard played for the Minnesota Pump N Run 15-and-under team last summer, but didn't play in many events due to traveling out of state during part of the summer.

Woodard picked up his first scholarship offer from Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Sunday, but expect others to follow suit soon. He is also hearing from Santa Clara, Montana, North Dakota and North Dakota State.

The Greyhounds play #1 ranked Hopkins on the road January 14th and Osseo January 16th.
