Zach Vraa Gets Minnesota Interest

Zach Vraa, a 6-foot-3 three-sport senior standout from Rosemount, was recently named Minnesota's Mr. Football. He was honored during halftime at the Vikings-Cincinnati game and visit the Minnesota campus last weekend as a preferred walk-on candidate.

Zachary Vraa was named first-team All-Metro by KARE 11 Sports and the Minneapolis Star Tribune and first team St. Paul Pioneer Press All-State and second team Associated Press All-State. He recently visited with the Gopher coaches to hear more about the Minnesota walk-on policy.

Vraa visited North Dakota State two weeks ag, returning Sunday to be honor as a member of the Minnesota Viking all-State team. He told GoldenSports.Net that plans to visit North Dakota in January.

Vraa caught 39 passes for 783 yards and 12 touchdowns this season for the 7-4 Irish, which lost to Eastview in the section finals. He also led Rosemount in punt returns (averaging 15 yards) and kickoff returns (22.7 yards). His career receiving numbers are 113 catches, 1,985 yards and 25 touchdowns.

Vraa helped lead Rosemount to an 11-2 mark in football as a junior, sharing the Lake Conference title with Eden Prairie. They lost to eventual state champion Wayzata 34-10 in the Class AAAAA semifinals.

Vraa finished with 51 receptions for 945 yards (18.5 yards per reception) and 13 touchdowns. He caught 62% of the team's receptions on the season.

Vraa has scored double figures in all four games so far this season and is averaging 17.5 points. He had 16 points in a 64-51 win over Bloomington Kennedy, 17 in a 70-69 victory over Bloomington Jefferson, 12 in a 71-66 loss to Lakeville South and a season-best 25 in the Irish's 60-51 win over Lakeville North.

Vraa averaged 18.7 points per game as a junior as Irish finished 10-16 last year.

Vraa is also a standout on the Irish track team, which finished second in the Class AA state meet. He was second in the 110 meter hurdles (14.79 seconds) and 4 x 200 meter relay.
