St. Paul Johnson Wins Best Buy Opener 85-58

St. Paul Johnson defeated St. Louis Park 85-58 in the opening game of the Best Buy Holiday Classic held at Augsburg College. The Governors improved to 6-0 and are ranked #1 in Class AAA. the Orioles fell to 2-5 with the loss. Johnson will face the winner of Henry Sibley/Chicago Julian tomorrow at 6:00.

St. Paul Johnson jumped out to a 16-5 lead as they went into the break with a 39-26 margin. St. Louis Park cut the lead to 50-43 and had a chance to slice into the margin, but a three-point shot rimmed out. The Governors went on a 35-15 run to end the game. Johnson was led by Roosevelt Scott with 15 points. Six-foot-5 senior Max Rosenbloom had 13 points and Marcus Marshall, a 6-foot sophomore, added twelve points off the bench. Donte Warlick had eleven points and 6-foot junior point guard Estan Tyler, who has a scholarship offer from Northern Iowa, chipped in with eight.

The Orioles were paced by 6-foot-4 senior Alex Koch with 15 points. However, he was held to just two in the second half. 5-foot-9 junior guard Aaron Ziman and 6-foot-1 junior Marquelis Edwards added 13 points each.
