Hopkins Uses Strong Second Half in 81-65 Win

Hopkins, ranked #1 in Class AAAA, used a 24-8 run in the second half to pull away for a 81-65 win over Christian Faith Academy Elite in the semifinals of the Best Buy Holiday Classic. The Royals will play #1 Class AAA St. Paul Johnson in the championship game.

Hopkins led 38-36 at halftime and was up 49-48 in the second half after Braeden Anderson scored an inside basket, but failed to make the free throw to tie the score. The Royals scored eight straight points capped off by a Marvin Singleton inside score after grabbing three straight offensive rebounds. They built the lead to 63-52 and eventual went up 73-56.

Joe Coleman led the Royals with 27 points and Singleton added 26. D.J. Peterson chipped in with q13 points and Siyani Chambers had nine.

Byron Rhymes led Christian Faith Academy Elite with 16 points. Anderson had 13 and Rainer Croft added eleven. Kevin Thomas scored ten and eighth grader Andrew Wiggins finished with eight.
