Wally Ellenson To Attend Gopher-Iowa Game

Wally Ellenson, a 6-foot-4 sophomore guard from Rice Lake (WI) High, is expected to attend next weekend's Minnesota-Iowa game. He made an unofficial visit to Minnesota in October and attended the Gophers' homecoming game versus Purdue. Ellenson helped lead the Playground Warriors 15-and-under AAU team to runner-up finishes at the Hoosier Shootout and Kentucky Hoopfest last summer.

Wally Ellenson transferred to Rice Lake from Eau Claire Memorial, where he averaged 10.1 points per game as a freshman for the Old Abes, who finished 6-15. He was named honorable mention All-Big Rivers Conference.

Ellenson has led Rice Lake to a 12-10 mark. His former school Eau Claire Memorial is first in the conference with a 17-5 record and they lost to Memorial in both of their matchups.

Ellenson is averaging a team-best 15.4 points per game for the Warriors. They received a first round bye in the Division 2 playoffs and will face Tuesday's winner of the Barron (10-9) at Bloomer (13-8) game Thursday night.

His father, John, played college basketball at Marquette and Wisconsin. He is also a standout high jumper. He had a season-best 6-foot-7 jump and finished seventh in the WIAA Track & Field State Championship with a jump of 6-foot-4.

Ellenson has already received scholarship offers from Saint Louis, North Dakota State, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is hearing from schools such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, St. Louis, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Colorado State.
