Wally Ellenson Attends Minnesota-Iowa Game

Wally Ellenson, a 6-foot-4 sophomore guard from Rice Lake (WI) High, attended Sunday's Minnesota-Iowa game. He made an unofficial visit to Minnesota in October and attended the Gophers' homecoming game versus Purdue. Ellenson helped lead the Playground Warriors 15-and-under AAU team to runner-up finishes at the Hoosier Shootout and Kentucky Hoopfest last summer.

Wally Ellenson transferred to Rice Lake from Eau Claire Memorial, where he averaged 10.1 points per game as a freshman for the Old Abes, who finished 6-15. He was named honorable mention All-Big Rivers Conference.

Ellenson led Rice Lake to a 13-11 mark as he averaged a team-best 14.8 points per game for the Warriors. They defeated Bloomer 57-46 Thursday night, but lost to Baldwin-Woodville 65-64 in overtime Saturday.

His father, John, played college basketball at Marquette and Wisconsin. He is also a standout high jumper. He had a season-best 6-foot-7 jump and finished seventh in the WIAA Track & Field State Championship with a jump of 6-foot-4.

Ellenson has already received scholarship offers from Saint Louis, North Dakota State, Wisconsin-Green Bay and Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is hearing from schools such as Minnesota, Wisconsin, St. Louis, Ohio State, Notre Dame and Colorado State.

Ellenson attended the St. Louis-Dayton game February 13th, which the Billikens won in overtime 68-65.
