Oto Osenieks To Make Minnesota Visit

Oto Osenieks, a 6-foot-9, 215-pound forward from Carbondale (IL) Brehm Academy, will make an official visit to Minnesota this weekend. He has received plenty of late recruiting interest. Osenieks hasn't received a Minnesota offer, but that could change with another scholarship open with Justin Cobbs transferring. GoldenSports.Net caught up with Brehm head coach Aaron Lee to learn the latest.

Oto Osenieks played for the Latavian national team in the European 18 and Under Championships in 2008, held in Greece. He averaged 5.6 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, while shooting 54% from the field percent from the floor with 3.5 rebounds a contest. Osenieks played in a Latvian junior league, where he scored 7.4 points per in 15 minutes per contest.

Osenieks is hearing from several top programs, according to Brehm Academy head coach Aaron Lee.

"Providence, Iowa State, Cincinnati and a couple of other schools that I can't remember of the top of my head." Osenieks is a player with many strengths says Lee.

"I think that as a 6-9 kid, he creates matchup problems with his size. He can post up small players and big forwards at the Big Ten level will have a hard time with him going off the bounce and to the basket and finish well above the rim. He can create matchup problems. He is so versatile in what he can do at the offensive end of the court."

Osenieks has several areas of where he can improve as a player.

"I think that he will definitely need to get stronger. That will come with age and a good weight program. I think that he needs to be a little more selfish in terms of his ability to score."

Lee said that he isn't sure when his standout will make his college choice.

"He hasn't visited Minnesota yet, so when he gets back, we'll talk about when hr will make a decision."

Lee said that the any future college vists are up in the air.

"We'll know on Sunday."
