Bemidji's Ernie Heifort Gets Minnesota Looks

Ernie Heifort, a 6-foot-5, 230-pound linebacker/tackle from Bemidji (MN) High, led the state in tackles with 179, including eight for losses. Heifort attended the Gophers Junior Day and the Minnesota spring football game. Golden Sports.Net caught up with Heifort to learn the latest on his recruitment.

Ernie Heifort helped lead the Lumberjacks to a 6-6 mark as a junior. They started the season 2-4, but rolled in the Class 4A Section 7 playoffs, when they outscored three Duluth teams 100-14. The Lumberjacks fell to Sartell-St. Stephen in MN State Class AAAA Football quarterfinals 27-6.

GoldenSports.Net recently caught up with Heifort to learn the latest on his recruitment.

What schools are you hearing from right now?

"Minnesota, I've been talking to a lot. Michigan State and Wisconsin. Getting letters and talking on the phone to the coaches from Michigan State and North Dakota."

Did you get to many spring games or practices?

"I've been to a practice at Wisconsin. The only spring game I've made to was here at Minnesota."

Have you thought much about what camps you might attend thus summer?

"I'm coming to Minnesota for a couple of camp. I'm going to Michigan State for one. Wisconsin and maybe North Dakota."

What are the expectations for Bemidji this upcoming season?

"I think that we will be good. We have a lot of junior talent coming up that will be seniors. We didn't lose very many seniors, so I think that we will be strong again."

Are you playing any spring sports this year?

"No, just lifting."

What are you working on to improve as a player?

"Just getting quicker, faster and stronger."
