Chris Halvorsen Will Walk-on At Minnesota

Chris Halvorsen, a 6-foot-7 forward originally from Mendota Heights (MN) Henry Sibley, will walk-on at Minnesota, after playing as a freshman at Valparaiso. Halvorsen averaged just 1.0 points and 0.7 rebounds per game in nine contests. He did not play in the second semester for the Crusaders. He is enrolled in summer school and will paly for Pat Madison Magic in the Pulley Pro-Am Summer League.

Chris Halvorsen helped lead the state tournament as a junior ansd senior. They finished 27-3 his senior season, being upset by Bloomington Jefferson 60-56 in the state quarterfinals. He averaged 14.9 points per game.

The Warriors advanced to the Class AAAA title game his junior season, where they lost to Minnetonka 68-59 after leading 33-11 in the first half. Halvorsen averaged 11.7 points per game as the Warriors finished 26-6.

Halvorsen, who had 17 scholarship offers as a senior, visited Valparaiso and Lehigh Labor Day weekend. He had considered visiting his other finalists North Dakota State and Wisconsin Milwaukee before making his decision.

Halvorson averaged 7.0 points per game his sophomore year as Henry Sibley surprised many observers with their 21-7 mark, despite losing All-State forward Trevor Mbakwe before the season.

His older brother, Anders, led the Warriors in scoring in 2007 with 16.5 points per game as a senior. He is currently playing for the St. Thomas team.

Halvorsen will likely provide athleticsm and depth with the team. He will sit out the 2010-11 season ans have three years of eligibility remaining.
