Shelby Moats Gets Minnesota Scholarship Offer

Shelby Moats, a 6-foot-8, 230-pound junior forward from Waconia (MN) High, has received a scholarship offer from Minnesota, according to Minnesota Pump N Run head coach Jeremy Miller. Moats, who is GoldenSports.Net Minnesota's #2 player in the class of 2011, averaged 21.1 points per game and scored in double figures in all 26 contests as Waconia finished the season 22-4.

Shelby Moats scored 20 or more points 16 times with a season-best 32 points against Watertown-Mayer.

Moats has scholarship offers from Utah, Wisconsin-Green Bay, William & Mary, Harvard, Holy Cross, Lehigh, Yale, Princeton, Bucknell and Wisconsin-Milwaukee and is hearing from 30 to 35 schools, according to Minnesota Pump N Run coach Jeremy Miller. Iowa State, Denver, Butler, Northern Iowa, Colorado State, Minnesota, South Dakota State, Liberty, Penn, Northwestern, Washington State, Richmond, Stanford, St. Bonaventure, Princeton, and Iowa are among the school showing interest in Moats.

Moats will visit Stanford Friday and Santa Clara this weekend.

Moats averaged 13.8 points per game as a sophomore as he led the Wildcats to an 18-8 mark. He scored in double figures in 20 of 26 games and had a season-best 28 points versus Mound-Westonka. Waconia was upset in the first round of the section playoffs by Holy Angels 48-46.

Moats, a 4.0 student, played for the very successful Minnesota Pump N Run 17-and-under AAU team that has won several top tournaments this spring and finished second in the Atlanta Celtics Invitational.
