Q&A With Minnesota Native Zack Lofton

Zack Lofton, a standout for Howard Pulley and Columbia Heights High School talks about his summer, recruitment and his future.

You played well at various AAU tourneys this summer including the Peach Jam. Have any college teams shown any interest in you? If so, what schools?

"Yes , with coaches contacting my coaches and me I'm not sure of all but right now, Bryant University, Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, Wisconsin Green Bay, Valparaiso, SDSU, NDSU, Creighton, University of Mary, St. Cloud (MN), Minnesota State Mankato, SMU, Bradley, Detroit Mercy, and my coach Willie Brazil mentioned Lehigh and Santa Clara. There may be more but that's what I can think of right now."

Have you talked to any Gopher coaches about your recruitment?

"I haven't talked to them but Tubby has spoken to my coach."

What parts of your game have you improved on this summer?

"I improved my on-ball defense and confidence most, but this season improved me as a player in whole."

Who is the toughest player you had to play against this summer?

"Trevor Lacey would probably have to been the toughest player I guarded along with Austin Rivers."

Last season for Columbia Heights you averaged 17.6 points per game on a team that was one game away from state. What do you think you can bring to the team this year as senior?

"I think I can bring leadership to my team. I say that because I have matured a lot and know what it takes to take on a job like this. As you and I know, with leadership many things come along with that."

Can you give me a prediction at how Heights will do this season?

"I believe with the tools that we have, if we can all work as a team we can go to the section finals and battle for that spot in state."

What are your plans after high school?

"Go to [a] university that fits me and I'm comfortable with. As of right now I am unsure of a major but those are my plans."
