Fall Camp: Practice Report Day 14

The final day before the second scrimmage of fall camp, many injured players returned to the practice field Friday.

Great news on the injury front from yesterday's practice, the entire wide receiver core was suited up for drills during the afternoon session for the first time in over a week.

Brandon Green, who has been slowed by a tight hamstring, was running through receiving drills and showed no lingering effects.

Bryant Allen, who has been trying to play through an ankle injury since the start of fall camp, looked to be making progress. He doesn't seem to completely trust the strength of his ankle yet and gingerly breaks out of his cuts from time to time.

Troy Stoudermire sat out a couple practices at the beginning of the week but returned to practice took part in receiver drills.

MarQueis Gray continues to play at wide receiver and continues to impress with his hands. Gray and a few other wideouts worked on a drill where they had to catch passes thrown between two tackling dummies to simulate catching the ball in traffic. Gray caught every pass without a bobble. The ball seemed to stick to his gloves and he did a great job catching the ball away from his body.

J.D. Pride continues to improve each practice as a quarterback. He doesn't have the physical tools of Gray or Alipate but he seems to put the ball in the right spot and keeps working hard to improve.

Brandon Kirksey and Ra'Shede Hageman participated in drills. They have both been nursing ankle sprains but they looked healthier and moved around a lot better than earlier in the week. Kirksey is doubtful for the scrimmage but Hageman should play.

Coach Brewster mentioned that runningback Donnell Kirkwood is a little bit ahead of Devon Wright because of his pass blocking skills but mentioned Wright ran the ball well last Saturday during the scrimmage. Wright missed practice for an unspecified reason.

Lamonte Edwards appears to have fallen behind his classmates partly because he has missed some reps early on with a sore ankle. It will be interesting to see which runner stands out during the Saturday scrimmage.
