Bennett Addresses Media

On Tuesday after Coach Tim Brewster's press conference, players were available to the media. Starting running back, Duane Bennett, fielded questions about this year's Gopher team, their low pre-season ranking and the confidence level going into the first game.

When asked about the difference between this year's team opposed to last season, the junior running back said, "I think we've got a better football team. We got a lot more chemistry. I think the biggest thing for us was being able to establish a foundation during the spring and have something to transition into here in the fall. You know, we got a lot of playmakers on our team, we got a lot of guys coming back. As far as, you know, being young, we are very optimistic. We see what we have every day, you know, on offense and defense. We're going to be good this year."

One of the hot topics in the preseason has been the fact that the Gophers are expected to finish at the bottom of the Big Ten.

Bennett was asked if he was aware of the negative things the media has been saying about the team, Bennett responded, "As far as what others think, you're paid for your opinion, and you know, we allow you to do that but we know what we have in our room and we know what we're capable so we're really focused on that."

Coach Brewster has been very optimistic in the practices leading up to the Middle Tennessee State game. His optimism and confidence in his team seems to have rubbed off on his players.

When asked if the team had confidence going into the first game Bennett responded, "I think we do. I think it comes from having a great game plan through the coaches. Having a great game plan, being able to come out and, you know, play without thinking, playing fast, you know, is really going to benefit us. And I just think that with what we've been through for the week of preparation I think we got a lot of confidence going into this game."

Bennett has had a great fall camp and earned himself the starting job for the game on Thursday. With an improved running attack, Bennett should get plenty of carries and will be one of the cornerstones of the Gopher offense.
