Mississippi State baseball had their fourth scrimmage of the fall Tuesday afternoon. Included are complete stats and notes. The next scrimmage is Wednesday, with a start time between 3:30 and 3:45 pm.
Notes from the park:
The seven-inning scrimmage started at about 3:45 pm.
Each pitcher threw about 80% to 85% of their full velocity and their maximum pitch count was 40. After about two starts they will be allowed to throw upwards of 100%. A couple of pitchers threw near the top velocity for a few pitches, including true freshman RHP Hunter Renfroe who topped out at 94 mph in warmups and true freshman LHP C.T. Bradford, who topped out at 91 mph.
True freshman Taylor Stark will be out between 4 to 6 weeks due to a hamstring pull.
The team will not scrimmage Saturday due to the 11 am MSU-Alcorn State football game set to be played at Davis Wade Stadium. They will play nine inning scrimmages Friday and Sunday instead.
True freshman first baseman/lefthanded pitcher Nolan Thomas' nickname is "Big Papi" due to similar batting stance and other characteristics that he has with MLB player David Ortiz. It was given to him by MSU assistant baseball coach Nick Mingione.
Highlights from the scrimmage:
Senior Jaron Shepherd was 0-for-1 but had three walks.
Senior Jonathan Ogden was 1-for-2 with a double, 2 walks and 2 RBI.
Junior Brent Brownlee was 1-for-2 with an RBI.
True freshman Jake Smithey had three walks in his three at-bats.
True freshman Daryl Norris was 1-for-2 with an RBI.

True freshman Nolan Thomas threw 3 innings, allowing 1 run (earned) on 2 hits and 1 walk while striking out 3.
Senior Trey Johnson threw 3 innings, allowing 0 runs on 1 hit and 2 walks while recording 1 strikeout.
Top Velocity (Consistent and Top):
Since the pitchers were told to throw less than full velocity I will not list their velocities.
