MSU Signee Deville Smith Update

Mississippi State signee Deville Smith and his Callaway High School teammates play future teammate Rodney Hood and Meridian High School Monday afternoon in the 2011 Rumble In The South Tournament.

The fans who attend the tournament will see a much improved Deville Smith on the court Monday.

"I think I am running the floor better and controlling the team better," said Smith. "Now, I can run at a slower pace and still control the team better."

While slowing down on the court, off the court he's still full-throttle, preparing for next season.

"Right now, I am constantly in the gym," said Smith. "And after the basketball season is over I'm going to be in the weight room constantly."

He expects big things from Mississippi State next season.

"I think we will do a lot next year," said the Dandy Dozen selection. "I even think we have a pretty nice chance to make it to the Final Four."

He also expects to have a significant impact individually his freshman season at Mississippi State.

"I hope I can start as a freshman," said Smith. "(MSU junior point guard) Dee (Bost) told me he wants me to play point and he can play the two. He told me he's ready for me to come up there."

Smith is keeping a close watch on his future team. And he really was impressed with their play against Ole Miss last week.

"I watched the game when they beat Ole Miss and I thought Renardo Sidney and Dee Bost stepped up and played the best they could play," said Smith. "That was the hardest played game I have ever seen."

Deville and Callaway High School play Rodney Hood and his Meridian High School teammates at 5 pm, Monday, in the Rumble In The South Tournament.
