2012 Center Kirby Wixson Attends MSU Practice

One of the top class of 2012 offensive line prospects in the state of Mississippi, Kirby Wixson of Pearl High School attended Mississippi State's Thursday afternoon practice.

Kirby noticed several things he liked about the Bulldog practice.

"They have a fast tempo and I really like that," said the 6-3, 310-pounder. "The coaches really get into their players. I really like that also."

He paid particularly attention to the Mississippi State offensive linemen during his three-hour visit to practice.

"I watched the offensive linemen and learned a few more moves out there, especially at pass block, something that I'm not that good at," said Wixson. "I watched their techniques and noticed that they let the defense come to them."

Although he didn't have time to talk to the State coaches prior to practice, his recruiting coach has kept him up-to-date on Mississippi State's plans for him recruiting-wise.

"I've talked to Coach (Greg) Knox a little bit," said Wixson, who attended four Mississippi State football games this past season. "They want me to come to their camp and I plan on coming to it."

Mississippi State is just one of several colleges recruiting Wixson.

"I've gotten letters from Southern Miss, Ole Miss, (Mississippi) State, the Ragin Cajuns of Louisiana Lafayette, UCLA, Tennessee and Stanford," said Wixson, who also pitches for the Pearl High baseball team, recording a 2.57 ERA and 47 Ks in 30 innings.

Although still early in the recruiting process, Wixson has a clear leader.

"I really like State a lot," said Wixson. "Ole Miss is my second favorite. But mostly State."
