2012 Wide Receiver Twymond Howard Update

Pearl High School athlete Twymond Howard has decided to give football another shot after only playing basketball the past couple of years.

Howard explained why he decided to give football another chance.

"It was because I missed it a lot," said Howard, who was considered to be one of the top freshmen football players in Mississippi in 2008. "And my mom encouraged me to play again."

When he played football as a freshman he played wide receiver. And it looks like he will be playing that position once.

"I will be a receiver," said the 6-6, 200-pounder. "I believe (Pearl High School head Coach John Perry) will just have me at receiver. That's all I know for right now."

Although basketball has its physical moments, it's nothing like football's constant hitting. Twymond is preparing himself for what is coming in a couple of weeks when he starts high school spring practice.

"Every day I'm hitting the weights with all the other players and getting mentally focused," said Howard.

He had a chance to see a glimpse of what is in store for him when he hits the practice field when he and a couple of his teammates as well as Coach John Perry attended Thursday practice at Mississippi State. Howard liked what he saw.

"It was a real high intense practice," said the youngster. "Everybody got into each other very competitively. It was great to watch."

As for where he will be practicing in a couple of years, whether it be on the basketball court or the football field, that's something that Howard is going to have to figure out over the course of the next few months.

"I'm trying to figure that out now," said Howard. "I think it will be pretty good knowing that I can go either way. I just need to keep my head on straight."

He's going to try to balance AAU summer travel team basketball and attending a few football camps this summer.

"During the summer I will still play AAU basketball but I'm supposed to go to a couple of seven on seven team camps when we get everything settled," said Howard.

As far as favorite schools, Howard is still wide open.

"Everything is open right now," he said. "I like a lot of schools but I don't just have some top favorite schools right now."
