He explained why he decided to go ahead and commit.
"I decided to commit because this was the place I wanted to be and the place I knew I would have a good opportunity," said Evans, who is also being recruited by Ole Miss, Nebraska, LSU, Auburn, Stanford, Arkansas State, Memphis and Louisiana Lafayette. "This is where me and my family would like for me to go. I have grown up a Mississippi State fan. And I watch all their games on tv all the time."
There were quite a few other reasons why he chose MSU in addition to simply growing up a fan.
"There were really a lot of things I like about Mississippi State," said the youngster. "First of all, it's close to home. And it's not in a big city. That will allow me to keep my attention off of things. And it is a real good college for me to get my education. And they are really big on you getting your education at the school. I've been at their practices this week. I love how intense their practices are and how hard they work. I love practices like that because it gets the best out of people."
He should fit in well with Mississippi State because hard work is one of the reasons the State coaches offered him a scholarship.
"They told me that they like my hard work and my competitiveness, and they love my aggressiveness," said Evans.
As for where he'll play once he gets to State, he's really not sure.
"Coach Dan Mullen told me, he just doesn't know where he will play me," said Evans. "It could be offense or defense. I am an all-around athlete. I can really play anything. I play outside linebacker on defense, running back on offense, I do kick returns and punt returns."
