Class of 2012 Devonta Pollard Update

Kemper County (MS) High School class of 2012 member Devonta Pollard, rated the 31st best player in his class by, has just finished with spring football and is back on the AAU circuit.

Devonta Pollard, one of the elite members of the class of 2012, played in the 17U Mississippi AAU state championships with the Southern Phenoms this past weekend. His team played the 10 pm game Friday night. Pollard, earlier in the day, played in two jamboree football games with his Kemper County High School team.

If you are wondering why Pollard is playing football, he explains why.

"I love football," said Pollard. "I've been playing football ever since I was little. I just had to stop last year."

But it's not just the love of the game that has led him back to football.

"Football helps with my conditioning," said Pollard, who not only works out in football but also goes to the gym and does extra drills to help him get bigger, stronger and develop better stamina.

And it's not just building strength and conditioning that he is working on. He's also working to develop his overall basketball game.

"I have worked on my ball-handling skills, my outside jumper and tried to get stronger," said Pollard.

According to Pollard, one specific area of his ball-handling needed additional work.

"I used to could just go strong right but now I have worked on going strong left and now I can go both ways equally."

On offense, he's simply trying to improve his overall shooting touch.

"Offensively, I'm working to get a more consistent jump shot and I'm working on coming off screens and reading the screens. Really, I've basically been working on shooting the ball."

Although he continues to work to improve his game, colleges throughout the country already like what they see from the very talented Pollard, who recently saw his ranking on go from 54th in the nation to 31st.

"Mississippi State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Kentucky, Georgetown, LSU are (some that are) showing interest in me," said Pollard, who confirmed that he has offers from all those schools.

Although on the humble side when it comes to his recruitment, Pollard admitted that there are many, many more schools showing interest in him. The ones above are the ones he immediately mentioned when asked who is showing interest in him.

As for favorites, no one has the edge at the moment.

"I don't have any favorites," said Pollard, "All of the schools are even right now."
