MSU Baseball Signee Trevor Fitts Update

Mississippi State baseball signee Trevor Fitts (6-2, 205), a hard-throwing righthanded pitcher from Pelham, Alabama, attended the Mississippi State-Georgia Tech regional game this past Sunday with his family. In an exclusive one-on-one interview with Gene's Page, Trevor talked about his season, the draft and his thoughts about playing pro ball or college ball if he winds up being drafted.

How did your season go this past year?
Trevor Fitts - "We were good at the beginning of the season but we dropped off a little bit. I lost four games this year and all four were shutouts against us. I even had three two-hitters that I lost. It was a struggle."

How did you do individually?
"I did pretty well. I think I had about a 1.30 ERA and 106 strikeouts in 62 innings."

What pitches do you throw?
"Fastball, curveball and changeup."

What is your normal fastball velocity and your top velocity?
"It was probably about 87 to 89 and probably topped out at 92."

Is your fastball a two-seam or a four-seam?
"A two-seam."

So, that means you have movement on your fastball?
"Yes sir."

You are here for the Mississippi State-Georgia Tech regional game. Why did you decide to attend it?
"My mom wanted to come here yesterday but we didn't get the chance to. So we decided to drive over today."

You are definitely a draftable type player due to your talent. Have you talked to any scouts about the draft?
"Yes sir, the (Boston) Red Sox came to my house and some people have called me and sent me letters."

What did Boston talk to you about when they came in?
"They talked to me about the draft and how they run things in their organization. They talked about (Jonathan) Papelbon and him going to Mississippi State."

What your thoughts about playing pro ball or going to college?
"Right now I really do feel Mississippi State is doing the right things and I feel like going to Mississippi State is the right direction for me ."
