2012 Center Jamal Hester Talks Recruiting

Ridgeland (MS) High School's Jamal Hester, all 6-8, 270 pounds of him, is built more like a left tackle in football than a basketball center. But basketball is his game. And several colleges like what they see from the talented big man.

"Louisiana Tech, Alcorn (State), Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Alabama, Tennessee, Arkansas, Southeastern Louisiana, schools like that are recruiting me," said Hester. "I think Ole Miss has offered me."

He's taking his time deciding which schools he's most interested in.

"I really haven't thought about what schools I'm interested in," said Hester. "I'm basically trying to find what I am majoring in and take it from there. I might major in something like Marine Science."

As far as the basketball aspect of it, he has several things he's interested in seeing in a school.

"I'm looking at tradition, players who come in and work hard, players who come in and set a goal with me," said the youngster. "My main thing is not only to win basketball games but to develop a friendship in college and be like you are brothers."

Although choosing a college is not that far away, as of now he's more interested in improving his overall game so he can help his high school team this coming season.

"I've tried to get a little more physical and improve my ball-handling," said Hester. "I'm also trying to develop leadership so I can be a go-to guy in high school next year. Basically, I want to become a better all-around player."
