Jessy Ward Talks About Her Commitment to MSU

Clarksville (TN) High School senior guard Jessy Ward, considered one of the best pure shooters in the class of 2012 by, talks about her commitment to Mississippi State University.

"I committed a few weeks ago; at the beginning of June," said Ward, who also received interest from Vanderbilt, Auburn, Pittsburgh, , Virginia Tech, Southern Miss, Tennessee Tech, UT Martin, Austin Peay and a few others. "I had been thinking about it a lot. And I felt like this is where I needed to be, so I figured why hold off the decision if I knew this is where I wanted to come."

Her unofficial visit to Mississippi State in October appeared to have played a big factor in her decision.

"I visited here back in October and really liked the coaches, the team, the campus, the style of play - everything about it really," said Ward.

And the new Mississippi State basketball practice facility played a big part in her commitment as well.

"One of the big things I really liked was the new (practice) facility," said Ward. "They told me I would have a key card and I could come in whenever I wanted to and shoot. I really like that because I'm a hard worker that likes getting in the gym a lot."

Primarily recruited by MSU assistant coach Greg Franklin, she had nice things to say about him.

"I was mostly recruited by Coach G," said Ward. "He is a really good coach who knows what he is talking about. I like him a lot."

She explained what the Mississippi State coaches saw in her that caused them to extend an offer her way.

"They started recruiting me probably back in August (of 2010) when we had open gym and they came and watched me at my high school," said Ward, who will be used as a shooting guard at MSU. "They really liked my shot. And they liked my footwork."

Jessy Ward is Mississippi State's first commitment in the class of 2012.
