Jasmine Whitfield Receives New Offer

South Oldham High School's class of 2012 guard Jasmine Whitfield came to camp hoping for an offer. And she left the camp with the offer she hoped for.

"I still have the three offers as before, but I've just added another one from Mississippi State, which is awesome," said the excited Whitfield, who already had offers from Western Kentucky, Austin Peay, and Delaware as well as interest from Eastern Kentucky, Virginia Tech and Michigan. "They offered me right after camp was over. Coach Fanning offered me."

Although not quite ready to make a decision, the offer puts Mississippi State right at the top of her list.

"I love it," said Whitfield of the offer. "I'm highly considering this place to play basketball because I love it here. It's a cool place and I can see myself playing here."

She expects to make her decision by early August.

"I'm going to make a decision right after July," said the 5-11 guard. "I have four exposure tournaments in July, so I want to wait until after those to see what all offers I receive. I'll make my decision, then sign in the early signing period."

As for the Mississippi State camp, she couldn't have been more pleased with her experience.

"Everything was great at the camp," said the Crestwood, Kentucky native. "The coaches push you very hard but they can also have fun with you, which I like. It's kind of like a family atmosphere. They make basketball fun, plus they make you better. It's just a fun place to be. I loved it."

The basketball portion of the camp was played in Mississippi State's new basketball practice facility. Whitfield was very impressed with the facility.

"I love (the practice facility)," said Jasmine Whitfield. "It is brand new and it looks awesome. (If you are a MSU basketball player) you have a swipe card so you can work out whenever you want to or shoot whenever you want to."
