"I came on a visit to Mississippi State in the spring and I fell in love with everything about it," said Nielsen, who also considered Texas A&M, TCU, SMU, Northwestern (Louisiana), Georgia and Indiana. "I liked the family vibes that I got while visiting. And chemistry is so important to me when it comes to the team. I have always played for teams that have a lot of chemistry. It's so much more fun and you do so much better on the court."
She also came away impressed with the coaches.
"I loved the coaches because they seemed like real and genuine people," said Nielsen, who helped lead her team to a 45-3 record this past season. "They don't put on airs for you. I feel like they are genuinely nice people. I feel like it is going to be fun playing for them."
Mississippi State has upgraded their facility and Nielsen came away impressed with that as well.
"I love their facility," said the All-District performer who recorded 459 kills last season. "I have gone to some schools where it is about half the size of their facility, not that many seats. I just feel like there is going to be a lot of people there and it will be fun to play in there."
Nielsen talked about what she feels are her strengths.
"One of my strengths is having the ability to beat blockers on the other side by transitioning off the net fast," said Nielson, a member of the 2011 Greater Houston Volleyball Coaches Association Top 32 Preseason Team. "I also feel my quickness is a strength. And I feel like I'm a good team player who never slacks off."
