Redmond Enjoys Week One Win

One of the most explosive offenses in the greater Memphis area resides at Memphis East. With Brian Kimbrow and Will Redmond both getting their share of touches, East is extremely hard to defend. Last Friday the team turned in a 41-33 win thanks in large part to a 100+ yard receiving effort by Redmond who found the endzone once and added eight tackles and an interception on defense.

"We knew they had a pretty explosive offense," said Redmond of Southwind. "All week I was really focused on what I needed to do on the defensive side of the ball.

"I was going to play offense too, but we knew we needed to play good defense if we were going to be able to slow them down and get a win."

Will was extremely efficient with his three pass receptions gaining 108 yards and scoring on a 79 yard jaunt for a score.

"On offense we really don't know from one week to the next what we're going to with the gameplan," said Redmond. "Me and Brian (Kimbrow) are just ready to do whatever we need to do to help the team get a win."

This week the Mustangs take on Briarcrest Christian. Will is eager to suit up and step on to the field once again.

"I watched film of them last night and I am about to watch some more," said Redmond. "I am trying to get a good feel for what they do offensively and see if they are giving some things away in how they line up and things like that.

"They are a good team, so we will have to be ready to play hard against this week."

The Memphis standout made his commitment to Mississippi State prior to the season and he reports that things have calmed down a good bit since announcing his college intentions.

"A lot of schools have pretty much backed off," said Will. "It's a lot quieter now.

"There are still some schools who are recruiting me though. I am still hearing from Miami, Tennessee, North Carolina and Notre Dame.

"They all still tell me about their schools and then they ask me if I am sure Mississippi State is the place I need to be.

"I have told all of them that Mississippi State is where I feel like I belong."

Redmond reports that his correspondence with the Bulldog coaching staff has picked up since he announced his decision.

"I have been talking with them a lot more," said Will. "We don't talk on the phone as much because either I have practice or they do, but we talk on facebook a lot.

"They are always sending me things and we talk back and forth.

"Everyday I wake up I have a new facebook message from one of the coaches with a quote or some saying to start my day."

The talented defensive back plans to see his future team in action quite a bit over the course of the 2011 season.

"I am going to see them when they play Memphis and then I am going down there for the LSU game on Thursday night," explained Redmond. "I plan on going to several games this year, so I can see how they play and how the team is going to look when I get there."
