LAS CRUCES, N.M. - After carding a second-round 71, Mississippi State women's golf sophomore Mary Langdon Gallagher climbed into the Top 25 at the Price's "Give ‘Em Five" Invitational.
Her 1-under-par is a career-best for the second round and second-best round overall. In last year's edition her 72-73-74 earned an 11th-place finish. With a solid final round, Gallagher can match last year's tally.
The Lady Bulldogs posted a 301 after carding a 302 on day one. Their 13-over-par maintained 10th-place and is the best round on the early season. It is the best round by MSU since the 2010 Price's event.
Baylor used a 2-under-par 286 to take control of first-place. Kayla Mortellaro fired back-to-back 70's and sits atop the leaderboard individually heading into the final round.
Following a first-round 71, freshman Ally McDonald posted a 2-over-par 74. Her 145 total has her tied for ninth-place with 18 holes to go. Fellow freshman Rica Tse carved two strokes off her opening-round card with a 76.
Perry Katherine Furr and Elena Warren rounded out the MSU board with an 80 and 81, respectively.
"Well, it was one of those days that could have been," MSU coach Ginger Brown-Lemm said. "We have positives going, but with our youth experience is key. Mary Langdon's 1-under 71 patched the day for us. Ally struggled to a 74, but it could have just as easily been a 70. She couldn't get a birdie to drop. Rica came through with 76 but had 35 putts and no up and downs. Perry Katherine shot an 80 with 39 putts. So we are spending lots of time putting!"
