Ready to Report

Deonte Evans was one of the first players to commit to Coach Dan Mullen and Mississippi State for the 2012 signing class. Since that time, the McComb standout has not wavered and has held true to his word. Evans took in Starkville officially this past weekend as part of a large group of visitors.

"Man, I had a great time," said Evans. "We got to do so much and we had so much fun.

"Corey Broomfield was my host and he is my guy. We are a lot a like and I loved hanging out with him."

Saturday the group got to spend a lot of time together as the first big official function as a team.

"We got to spend some time at Coach Mullen's house, we went bowling and we went out with the players," said Evans. "Being with the players was the best part of the trip."

Evans, who brought both of his parents along on the trip, is still uncertain about what position he will play on the next level.

"In the first meeting I met with Coach Smith and he really wants me to be a DB," said Evans. "After that I met with Coach Mullen and then I went to a meeting with Coach Knox about playing running back.

"It doesn't really matter to me. I will do what is best for the team and then do my best at it.

"I just want to get on the field and contribute."

With signing day approaching rapidly, Evans does not have the end of the process drama that so many other players do.

"I wouldn't change a thing about how I handled the recruiting process," said Evans. "I loved being able to go places and tell people I was already committed to Mississippi State.

"I loved telling people that I was going to be a Bulldog and that they needed to come with us and represent Mississippi.

"I don't feel like I missed out on anything and it means something to me that I committed early and then kept my word all the way through.

"I am just going to finish up with basketball and get to work getting ready to report this summer."
