Ray Announces Hiring Of Wes Flanigan

Mississippi State head men's basketball coach Rick Ray has made his second staff hire with the hiring of Nebraska assistant coach Wes Flanigan.

Flanigan, who spent the previous two years at the University of Nebraska, has a strong background in the south, coaching at UAB for two seasons, UALR for four seasons and Northwest Mississippi Community College for five seasons.

During his two seasons at UAB, he was responsible for the perimeter players. The 2008-09 squad connected on 228 3-pointers, the third-highest total in school history. During his two seasons at UAB, the teams won 47 games and played in the NIT both seasons.

At UALR he was named associate head coach and recruiting coordinator his last season prior to being hired by Nebraska.

At Northwest Mississippi Community College, the men's teams posted a 199-39 record and won two MACJC North Division titles and three Region XXII championships to advance to the NJCAA Tournament in Hutchinson, Kansas. He also help coach the women's team, helping lead them to an 80-51 mark and five postseason appearances.

Flanigan played his college ball at Auburn University where he earned four letters, was co-captain for three of his four seasons and earned All-SEC his junior season. During his time at Auburn, he was selected Auburn University's top student-athlete in 1997.

He signed with Auburn after playing for his father, Al Flanigan, at Parkview High School in Little Rock, Arkansas. He was named the 1992-93 Arkansas Gatorade High School Player of the Year.
