Cord Sandberg commits to MSU

Manatee (FL) High School 2013 quarterback Cord Sandberg talks about his Mississippi State commitment.

  • Name: Cord Sandberg
  • Classification: 2013
  • High School: Manatee (Bradenton, FL) High School
  • Position: Quarterback
  • HT: 6-foot-3, WT: 211
  • Ranking: 3-Star.
  • Committed to Mississippi State. He had 15 offers.

  • "I talked to Coach (Dan) Mullen and I just verbally committed to Mississippi State," said Cord. "He was real excited about it, as was I. He said he was excited and said welcome to the family. I don't know if he actually was but he said he was jumping up and down (with excitement)".

Sandberg talked about why he decided to commit to Mississippi State."

"I knew that I wanted to be in the SEC, and I really felt good about the coaching staff," said Cord. "It just right to commit and get it behind me."

Sandberg was recruited by several of the coaches, including Dan Mullen.

"I talked to Coach Mullen the most and Coach (Les) Koenning and Coach (Scott) Sallach came down (to my school)," said Cord. "I talked to all of them but I probably talked to Coach Mullen the most."

Something else that probably didn't hurt is the fact that Sandberg is a left-handed throwing quarterback from Florida as was another lefty from Florida, Tim Tebow, a quarterback that Dan Mullen coached.

"It feels good knowing that he has had some guys in the past that he has had success coaching and they have had success playing under him," said Cord. "It definitely feels good knowing that."

Sandberg, who had 15 or 16 scholarship offers, narrowed it down to four schools.

"I was also considering Auburn, Missouri and LSU because I wanted to play in the SEC," said Cord. "Mississippi State just felt like the right fit with the coaching staff and everything else."

Sandberg is happy to get recruiting out of the way.

"It feels good to get it behind me and focus on my football season," said Cord.

Sandberg joins fellow Bulldog commitments South Panola (MS) High School offensive tackle Deon Mix, Houston (MS) High School defensive end Chris Jones, Hollandale Simmons (MS) High School offensive lineman Kent Flowers, Gadsden City (AL) High School wide receiver B.J. Hammond, Bogue Chitto (MS) High School defensive back Brandon Wells and Copiah-Lincoln (MS) Community College wide receiver Devante Scott.
