Austin Commits to Bulldogs

Scott Austin was identified as the top wide receiver prospect in his home state of Mississippi after a strong junior season. Earlier today, the Biloxi, Mississippi standout committed to Mississippi State over offers from Ole Miss and Southern Miss.

"I committed to Mississippi State," said Austin. "I feel like the program is on the rise and I want to be a part of that."

Austin has favored the Bulldogs for quite a while, but he took his time to consider all of his options.

"The last time I was up there, Coach Mullen took me and Coach aside and talked with us," said Austin. "He told me that they really wanted me up there.

"Coach Mullen said that they want to throw it a lot more, so they are trying to get some big receivers who can make plays.

"He told me that he felt like I could come in and fit in to their offense."

The Mississippi gulf coast has long been a hot bed for prospects looking to stay a little closer to home and attend either LSU or Southern Miss.

Austin reports that the recent run of players from the 228 going to Starkville caught his attention.

"There have been some players from down here that I know like Joe Morrow from Ocean Springs that have gone up there," said Austin. "It's not that far from home and I really like the campus and all of the coaches at Mississippi State.

"I looked at everything and out of all of the schools I just felt Mississippi State was the right place for me."

Austin is the 11th public commitment towards the 2013 signing class for Coach Dan Mullen and his staff.
