Southaven's Aliyahh Miller, a player to watch

Southaven (MS) High School's 2013 girl's basketball player Aliyahh Miller is a player to watch this coming season.

  • Name: Aliyahh Miller
  • Classification: 2013
  • High School: Southaven (MS) High School
  • Position: Forward
  • Ht: 6-2
  • Colleges of Interest: Austin Peay, Murray State, Ole Miss, UT-Martin, Western Kentucky

  • Miller has at least five colleges showing heavy interest in her, according to her AAU coach, Eric Daniels of the Memphis Elite program.

"She has several colleges looking at her right now. Ole Miss, Austin Peay, Murray State, UT-Martin and Western Kentucky are some of the schools that are heavily (recruiting) her," said Daniels

Daniels explains why college coaches like her.

"The thing that stands out about Aliyahh is her combination of size and athletic ability," said Daniels. "I think she has the range to play any of three different positions and be an effective defender against two, three and four players on the D-I level."

Miller talked about her overall game on both sides of the court.

"I'm a great defender and quick on my feet," she said. "I hustle and put forth a lot of effort when I play. I also get a lot of rebounds. (Offensively) I'm good with my first step and my quickness against bigger players. I have the ability to take them off the dribble."

This is Miller's third year to play AAU ball and she has seen a lot of benefit to her overall game.

"It has helped my game a lot," said Miller. "It's helped me be more competitive and to always be ready to play. Playing against such good players has helped me be a tougher player and learn how to play smarter."

While it appears Miller will have several different options when it comes time to play college ball, she has certain things she is looking for in a college.

"I'm looking for a good atmosphere where I can feel at home and also a place that has good coaches," she said.
