"I committed (late Friday afternoon)," said Vickerson, whose older brother Nick Vickerson played for Mississippi State during the 2010 and 2011 seasons. "I knew when he offered there was a good chance I'll go (to Mississippi State).

"After thinking about it for a couple of weeks I knew it was about the right time (to commit)."

Vickerson explained why he felt Mississippi State was the right choice for him.

"It wasn't a hard decision (to commit) because I'm so familiar with everything (at Mississippi State)," he said. "I know the coaches very well and have a good relationship with each of them."

Also being around State for the two years his brother was there allowed him to learn a lot about the university and the baseball program.

"Being around the program for a few years caused me to fall in love with the facilities and the fanbase," said the talented infielder.

He chose Mississippi State over another SEC program.

"It came down to State and Alabama," he said. "I didn't wait to get an offer from Alabama."

Vickerson had an impressive freshman season in 2012 for Shelton State, hitting .381 (2nd on the team) in 194 at-bats, striking out just 15 times while walking 30. He knocked in 18 runs while scoring 58 in 57 games. He also stole 19 bases in 21 attempts.
