Junior College Back Visiting Tigers

Auburn will will be the host to junior college running back Cameron Artis-Payne for an official visit.

Santa Maria, Calif.—One of the top junior college running backs in the country, big Cameron Artis-Payne will be on the Auburn campus Sunday through Tuesday for an official visit with the Tigers.

At 5-11, 215 pounds, Artis-Payne has several offers to choose from following a pair of successful seasons at Allan Hancock College.

After running for 351 yards in a 49-42 win over Pasadena City College on Saturday, Oct. 20, Artis-Payne is leading the state in average rushing yards per game (209.6) and touchdowns (22). He added 148 yards on 25 carries and four touchdowns in a loss to Bakersfield College on Saturday.

He has been named the Southern California Football Association Northern Conference Player of the week three times and the Santa Barbara County Roundtable Player of the Week twice.

Entering this past Saturday's game, Artis-Payne had already broken the school record for the most rushing yards in a career with 2,831. After rushing for 1,364 yards last season, the powerful sophomore now has 1,615 so far this season to put his career total to 2,979 and break the previous record of 2,590, held by Redell Windley from the Bulldog's 1975 and 1976 squads.

Artis-Payne also broke Chris Lester's record from the 1999 team for the most touchdowns scored in one season and Windley's record for most rushing yards in one season (1,498).

In addition to Auburn, Artis-Payne is also looking at Utah, Washington, New Mexico and Utah State. He is still waiting on an offer from the Tigers.

Artis-Payne transferred to Hancock from Milford Academy in New York. He has three years to play two on the next level.
