"Mississippi State recruited him," Robert Washington Sr., father of the phenom back, said this afternoon. "They showed a lot of interest in Robert - a LOT of interest.
"Their coaches have done a good job. Robert calls them all the time. He talks to them once a week, and Mississippi State has done a good job. Robert has been talking with them for a month to a month and a half, and we knew they were going to offer at some point."
Dad talked about the details surrounding the offer.
"Coach (Tim) Brewster told Robert that if wants to be a Dawg, they'll honor the commitment for four years - regardless of injury," he said. "Coach Brewster said it's Robert's call.
"My wife and I sat down and talked about it, and then we called Coach Brewster. Robert wants to go ahead and commit, but we want him to go through the full process for a little longer before he makes a decision."
Ole Miss was first to offer Washington, who has rushed for nearly 1,000 yards this year for SouthLake.
The Eagles have only tasted defeat once this fall. Washington and his teammates face Victory Christian of Charlotte on Saturday in the state championship.
